Your Frequently Asked Questions

What are my options for resolving my legal problem?

Keene Legal offers multiple different services including Mediation, Collaborative Law, and Litigation. You can call or email to schedule a free consultation to determine what the best solution is to meet your needs.

Why choose mediation?

Mediation is cheaper, faster, and preserves relationships better than litigation. For divorce matters it’s also the best route to avoid tearing the family apart. Clients are empowered to create their own agreement with the guidance of a mediator. The amount of time the resolution takes is also at the sole discretion of the clients to empower them to manage the cost of their legal resolution.

What is Mediation?

Mediation is a confidential process that helps clients resolve their legal dispute without involving a judge who does not know the intricacies of the family’s needs. It is confidential, client driven, and is cheaper and faster than litigation.

What are the Benefits of Mediation?

  • Confidential & Less Intimidating: A Court of Law is a public forum for solving legal disputes. Mediation is confidential and occurs in a less intimidating and less formal environment so clients feel more comfortable and can get to work resolving their dispute with the guidance of the neutral mediator.
  • Preservation of the relationship: If relationship preservation is one of the goals of the parties involved in a legal dispute, mediation is the way to go. Sometimes parties will have to work together in the future, thus taking each other to court is not ideal. Mediation is an agreement between parties that facilitates relationship preservation. For example, parties going through a divorce mediation can eliminate the need to fight, thereby avoiding destroying the parents’ relationship with each other and their children. Children stay out of the dispute and parents resolve their conflicts in a confidential, amicable manner.
  • Allows for comprehensive resolutions:  The outcome is decided by the parties involved. A judge only gets to hear the parties state their case for a few minutes, not leaving enough time to get the full scope of every detail of the case. Mediation can address non-legal issues and the final agreement is created to ensure the parties don’t run into the same problems again.
  • Faster Resolution: The speed at which the dispute is resolved is driven by the clients making resolution faster.

Mediation at Keene Legal is performed on a flat fee per meeting basis. The number of meetings is driven by the clients. The advantage here is that clients are in control and know what they’ll be paying from the very beginning.
